Can I suggest an alternative reason?

The markets are going apeshit over some decision Japan has made which basically amounted to 'pulling the trigger' on US debt recycling.. ie the US financial markets and by extension the greater economy is in some kinda trouble bigger than what we've seen so far. Just watch and see for when the oligarchs start heading for their very expensive fallout bunkers.
