Kidflix and crypto

There is no childporn that is worth a single day spent in prison. Even just a conditional sentence will ruin a lot. One gets punished again and again. And the situation gets worse and worse - even in non-crazy European countries.

I just read in the news that the "Kidflix" platform was taken down on March 11th and there were a lot of arrests in several countries. The low hanging fruit were users who paid with crypto currency and thought it would not be traceable.

Crypto-currencies are public. The ledger is maintained by the public and everybody can retrieve it and read it. If one takes a certain "coin", one can trace it back to the initial mining and all the wallets it has been through. If you bought a coin at a bitcoin ATM or some other broker, then it went directly into your wallet and hence you are known as the owner of that wallet. All the details in the ledger can be downloaded, then algorithms can search for that kind of transaction - and gives out a list of suspects.

There is only one good thing here: it is not top news, one had to scroll down a lot.
