TPKA monkeyLostInHead in the post linked below includes atoms among the things that don't exist "in the way we think of them." Is this the same as your "primary" or "spatio-temporal" sense of existence? Is an atom a thing or a concept? Monkey says "the atomic model is useful and tells us something about reality." This seems reasonable to say, but isn't it a more modest claim than you are making for physicalism? Or, if it isn't, don't your claims about physicalism wind up being tautological? Something like: If we restrict ourselves to "events" that we can describe in terms of position, mass, charge, etc., then all such events can be described in terms of position, mass, charge, etc. hugzu ;-p |
