It is 576 pages though. Lots of primary materials. Exhausting, but did really transform my view of WWII. Russell is a much friendlier read. In a sense the two chapters I mentioned from his book do the same thing Baker does much more efficiently. Errant got me to read Russell, and it's been a touchstone for me ever since. He is provocative on a wide range of topics, and good on gay liberation, which he sharply distinguishes from the homophile movement that preceded it: Today’s movement for gay marriage – a renewal of the homophile movement – ended gay liberation, is helping to end straight liberation, and seeks to return all of us to the 1950s. hugzu ;-p |
