NATO became apparently weak when Trump threatened to no longer support allies. I see it as a positive, at least for Europe. Being dependent on the US on the long run is suicidal. Even as a president, Trump praised Putin and took Putin's side. Yes, I believe Trump would have allowed Putin to split Ukraine in half. Again, I think it would have been a good thing. Eastern Ukraine is populated by Russian-speaking Ukrainians who for the most part couldn't care less about whether they were ruled by Ukraine or Russia. They had little reason to support a corrupt oppressive State. Russia isn't any better, sure, but it isn't worse. Changing the frontiers here would have been no big deal, and would have spared a war with millions of victims. What about setting a precedent, you may say? Well, there is no other place in Europe with such a large Russian-speaking population, so it wouldn't have generated any precedent. And Russia, with its decreasing demography, is in no position of invading Europe. Let's get real... The only "drawback" is that the US couldn't have sold their expensive gas to Europe, as Nord Stream 2 would still be working and Europe would have avoided an energy crisis. Millions more European children could have been well-fed and taken out of poverty. By blinding obeying the US, the EU has damaged the economical situation of Europeans for decades. Was it worth it? What are we fighting for here? The benefits of a few Oil and Gas companies, and nothing more I'm afraid.
