This has surprising legs considering it is basically a Dem fantasy (Dems show their disarray by dumping Biden, Trump evens the odds by dumping Vance). USA Today, an outlet that specializes in theorizing US electoral politics as a version of professional wrestling, writes about Trump:On Wednesday at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, he was asked if Vance could be ready to serve as president on day one. Trump notably didn’t answer, instead saying: “Historically, the vice president in terms of the election does not have any impact. I mean, virtually no impact." That’s a nice way of saying: “JD Vance who? Never heard of ‘em.” The Dem media that forced (well, it was really the big money doners, but the media was on board) Biden out of the race probably can't convince Trump to admit he made a mistake. It isn't in his nature. Besides, his claim -- "nobody gives a shit about the vice president" -- is objectively true. Two weeks of dumping on Vance will be followed by two weeks of media applause for whoever Harris picks as a running mate. Then it will all be forgotten. But the fact remains: Vance added nothing to the Trump ticket. Harris, unless she is stupider than I am confident she is (and even if she were, the Dem moneybags would checkmate her), will pick a veep who can help in a swing state in what promises to be (sorry, partisans who are cheering for a landslide in either direction) an extremely close election. Nobody will talking about Shapiro, Kelly or Beshear in a month's time. But whichever one Harris picks will be helping to turn out the vote in a swing state. Vance will just be more evidence that one talent Trump lacks is choosing his allies. hugzu ;-p |
