..about the level of sophistication of genetic engineering these days. I like to read all sorts of science articles including some about genetics but I'm no expert in anything, so I wouldn't know just what those who are experts are capable of these days. My reason for wanting to know is because I told my mother a few days ago that this COVID-19 could not have been a secret government-engineered virus or a Chinese weapons-lab fuckup or similar, but I'd like to be more sure of my assertion. I'll entertain the possibility for a bit. The conspiracy theory goes that this virus targets older people.. to wipe them out and save the government having to pay out money to support the pensions of the elderly.. or variations thereof. We do know that telomeres could be considered a marker to roughly represent age, but it is not an exact correlation. Perhaps CRISPR has leapt ahead more than I realised. Perhaps there are people that are capable of engineering an easily transmitted virus that targets people with less telomeres and/or other weaknesses.
