I've always thought it hypocritical

Parents and teachers endlessly push the stranger danger myth, and then on Halloween they either send their kids out to try to get goodies from strangers on their own or just as bad they'll accompany the kids from a short-leash distance as they do it. I wonder what happens if the household pedophile just says 'nah' to giving out sweets or whatever and then shuts the door on the kids.. will the parents jump out of the car and start egging the roof on behalf of their brat?

Always thought of Halloween as 'just an American thing', but I saw the dressed-up kids doing the rounds with their parents last year, musta missed it this year.

I do think the Halloween scenes were iconic in the movie ET the Extraterrestrial.. nostalgically memorable, but we're a far cry from how things were back in 1982.
