Started lurking late in the last millennium and made my first post a few months later. My first nick was compromised; I started posting under this one back in 2009 if memory serves me correctly. I can sympathize with some of your rage, but I'd be careful to call Musk. Trump, Thiel etc. the "worst human beings" who ever lived. As Solzhenitsyn pointed out, the capacity for evil runs through every human heart. Capitalism if you want to call it that (and I would dispute that much of our economy is genuinely free-market capitalist -- "oligarchical capitalism" is probably a more accurate designation) does have the virtue of dispersing at least material/economic power to some extent. While socialism (genuine socialism as in state ownership of the means of production, not simply a generous welfare state) concentrates power to a dangerous degree. If you really want to rub your face in evil, look at the history of Stalin's Russia, Mao's China, or Pol Pot's Cambodia. Socialism's defenders have never really been able to answer the charge that the concentration of power necessary to run a centrally-planned economy allowed for evil on a scale that had never been witnessed before (it bears remembering that "Nazi" is an acronym for National Socialist). As for us? We're everywhere and on average we're no better or no worse than the common run of humanity. (I can assure you that there are plenty of us in Silicon Valley -- including some of the most powerful people there. You can find us in the ranks of ardent Zionists as well as Holocaust deniers.) What sets us apart (in this day and age anyway -- in more sensible times the label was essentially meaningless since it was assumed that most men like boys which they do if left alone) is that we're forced to think for ourselves.
