Personally, I do not think there is anything at all incongruous about a 'mental health advocate' seizing on an opportunity to denigrate a pervert. The mental health industry is primarily about enforcing conformity by identifying, isolating and pathologising deviance. That is just what it does, and there's no point in expecting it to do anything else. Contrary to its own self-serving propaganda, destigmatising difference is not what the mental health discourse is intended to do. Rather, it makes difference very visible and defines it according to the dominant ideologies of our age. For this reason, among others, I am very sceptical about recommendations that perverts engage with B4U-Act or any other part of the great public psycho-cult. But of course, every deviant must decide these things for him or herself. |
