That's where things get lost. Ackshully, I was just musing today on what the hell would happen if it were true that humans or their distant-past lineage were modified by aliens (for want of a better word) to end up creating us as we are today. By 'true', I mean as in found out somehow, acknowledged by the creatures themselves, proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Would people start worshiping them as gods, or turn on them and try to destroy them or be deliberately contrarian? Perhaps the secret of the truth would be worth almost any amount of engineered global conflict to keep it a secret, lest it destroy our sense of our selves and alter our behaviour forever to something not wanted by our creators. Perhaps galactic gardeners plants the seed of life throughout the galaxy, but then fully expect their creations to run riot.. all part of the joy of gardening.
