Rather than repealing the Nineteenth Amendment, the US needs to create a similar amendment prohibiting the US and its states from denying the right to vote based on age. It goes without saying that the repeal of the Nineteenth Amendment would be a huge step back for children's suffrage. The solution to children's paternalistic subjugation is not the paternalistic subjugation of another group, like females. It's to reject paternalistic subjugation. Feminism was the best thing for youth liberation. Even if it increased adultism, it also created a precedent to abolish paternalistic subjugation. All that's left to do now is to apply it to age. The way I see it, paternalism is paternalism. It breeds paternalism. If we increase paternalism against females, we're going to increase paternalism against children. Even if females are currently more paternalistic than males, in the long run, we will actually get more paternalism in voters if deny females the vote. Including against boys. To take away power from women is going to reinforce the notion that only men should have power. By the way, yeah, feminism is shooting itself in the foot by expanding adultism. It's more work for mothers. And under the guise of protecting children, society gets to continue sexism against girls. And paternalism breeds paternalism. Adultism and anti-female sexism are highly intertwined. You can't address one without the other. Both feminists and you get that wrong. You also can't address anti-female sexism without addressing anti-male sexism, or vice versa. That's another thing feminists get wrong. You likewise cannot address adultism without addressing anti-adult ageism, or vice versa. Addressing any discrimination requires a holistic approach. You must address both sides, and any highly connected discrimination too. |
