It is hard to imagine this happening in any other country, much less getting the level of (qualified) support that the students have received from mainstream French politicians. I don't know why France does this kind of thing so much better than other countries, but it is very striking how politicised French élèves appear to be - certainly compared to the lazy stereotype of disengaged, stupefied teenagers in much of the Anglosphere. What would it take, I wonder, to provoke such a manifestation where I live? |
