You are painting the "young people" with a pretty broad brush don't ya think? Do you really think you are helping telling them to not trust anyone for their whole life? Never making a trusting close friend for your WHOLE LIFE just so you won't be discriminated against by an unprofessional medical gatekeeper when you are 90 years old seems like a negative hopeless approach. Coming out as a pedophile/child molester/rapist is a bumpy road, but coming out as a MAP, dudelover, bl, boy magnet, kid lover, good with kids... there are so many ways to self identify which aren't coming out as a potential villain. You don't even have to put a label on it. People just start to think of you as the guy who vibes with kids and it's pretty normal because all kids need love and attention from people in their community in order to grow up healthy. Maybe the best thing about telling someone might be the possibility that the person you tell pushes back on your simplistic self assessment. They might ask you why you self identify with concepts designed to classify "others." Hopefully they would push you to reconsider how you see yourself. The concept of "coming out of the closet" is a gay thing and it has led to people thinking that's "who they are," but even though that approach has been handy for people who see themselves as "gay" it's not really an accurate way to describe the normal human experience which typically have some homosexual thoughts and experiences along the way. Everyone is a little gay, a little pedo, a little racist, but those aren't very well rounded labels to describe a human being with and really aren't healthy self conceptions. You are so much more than one aspect of your personality. ![]() |
