I can appreciate eye candy as much as the next guy, but for a fuller appreciation of a movie or TV show, the story must be good.. ie any story elements and relationships and associated behaviour must be realistic or the story will flop and it will be boring, unless it is some kind of comedy/parody where there is no intention of trying to be realistic.

For me it's the same feeling as with stories where the audience knows it is not real versus stories where there is clearly an awful or simplistic attempt at trying to mirror reality. You get that with a lot of sickly-sweet stories from film-makers who are only thinly veiling their religious tendencies. Without even checking the details of those kinds of movies at imdb, you can get the vibe part-way through the movie. One example that comes to mind was Take Shelter (2011) - it was a lot of song-and-dance about some guy who was having premonitions about a coming tornado disaster and although there wasn't a lot of religion shown in the movie, it was clear enough that it was being made by a person of that persuasion and for an audience of that same persuasion. Anyway.. just an example of what I thought was unrealistic dialogue and it killed the story.
