Having two year olds go out on errands and letting them cry at first. Very quickly the tykes learn how fantastic it is to have agency, autonomy. And they stop crying. All the people I've known who grew up free range have been the most well adjusted. I find that without exception and I have yet to find anyone from that era who disagrees with me. I suppose one could say we've seen a snowball effect where helicoptering is concerned, as it's been passed on generation to generation. I hope something explodes it all such that enough people, maybe the young themselves, say, "Fuck this. Enough." |
