I would be sad to think that white faces with blond or fiery red hair would be forever eliminated from the human race, for I find such combinations attractive (and I also find many other combinations attractive); but my understanding is that such a thing is actually extremely unlikely, because genes are discrete - they are not blended; recessive genes are not eliminated, and so the corresponding characteristic will always appear in any population into which the genes were introduced, even if with less frequency after the introduction of a more dominant characteristic. The gene for fair skin and blue eyes, etc. was created by a mutation, and, once a mutation appears, the corresponding characteristic can only be eliminated if there are selection mechanisms against it, i.e. if it is a survival disadvantage, and this does not seem to be the case in this instance. ![]() |
