You do not address my central argument, which is that unless we are prepared to be more radical, and seriously challenge the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few, we will be unable to avoid the dilemma of either seeming to be indifferent to youngsters' welfare or going along with further measures which demarcate childhood as a separate and specially protected stage. Instead, the moment that capitalism is criticised, you feel compelled to leap gallantly to the defence of the fair wench, as though her honour has been unjustly traduced. Still, since your defence rests on the spectacularly implausible claim that we are all of us perfectly free to get filthy rich and start up our own social tech firms, I don't suppose it's a defence I need waste any time over. ![]() |
