Removing risk from boys' lives is castration. Testosterone promotes risk. When a boy reaches puberty, he needs risk -- without it he becomes neurotic or depressed or otherwise malfunctional. This effect can clearly be seen in today's society, but it is used to further the sort of smothering safety that is seeing male testosterone levels in steady decline. It's a vicious cycle, a tightening ligature around the male gonads, and thus far its prompting pained men to cry out, "Please, Ma'am, may I have some more!"
