I think the main issue is how these as you put "species that burned witches, gassed Jews, and constantly exploits other silly human emotions for profit." view adolescents. There is a major heightened fever pitch of infantilization of adoles. Science has proven that adoles are more like adults, than like small children or toddlers. Yet, the main stream loves to believe that they MUST be approached with "kid gloves" and bubble-wrap lest be irreparably harmed for life.

Those of us GenXers and Xenials, and even Baby Boomers, KNOW that there are mentally and emotionally better outcomes if adoles are given free-range and agency to decide for themselves. You fell off your bike and scraped your knees? Walk it off! You lost the game 21-0? Try harder next time—no pizza party today! You are being bullied at school? Ignore it or fight back, I don't care, just figure it out! This is the fuel for cognitive load on the prefrontal cortex which accelerates mental and emotional growth and enables critical thinking skills.

This is fully supported by free-range parenting groups like LetGrow.org (https://letgrow.org/book/free-range-kids/).

Adoles are immensely resilient. Much more than they are given credit for today. I think the line should be drawn where it was back in a more common sense time. Sure in the 70s-80s the AoC was still older than in 1885, but effectively, not many people cared unless it was forced rape. (also the caveat of homophobia, so a girl and a man, not that serious, a boy and a woman, two thumbs up and a "atta boy", man and boy, age less of a problem than it being gay).

So as far as how to treat risk with adoles? I say similar to adults in that who cares if two want it? If one is raped however it is a serious offense whether adole or adult.
