They're not assholes or caricatures (from where I sit anyway). The bully is the asshole. There are many many reasons kids shouldn't have phones and this is one of them. I suppose the mom could have said, "Look, it's ok, you didn't know, give me the code, I'll talk with him as your mom and tell him he's going to jail if he says another word to you." But not everyone can think that clear-headedly in the heat of such a moment. I doubt it's a majority who can. I don't know about 8%-how could anyone know without being omniscient? How many kids who get blackmailed say anything? I suspect the percentage of boys who get catfished is high. Too horny, too eager, wanting to believe "she" digs him, and still naive about these things. I don't see it as propaganda. The percentage is obviously an estimation but it seems more than possible. It might even be low. Never underestimate how many twisted fucks are out there. |
