I believe in such things as human nature and sexual difference, and I believe very much in truth, so I don't think your characterisation of "the Left" gets to the nub of the issue. I don't want to make any wild claims about your beliefs, but I will say that I often wonder where exactly on the spectrum you are supposed to sit! On pederastic matters your position doesn't seem very left wing. So I'm not sure how effective quoting your own beliefs is in defending the Left. Laudate Agno's summary sounds about right to me. It's just that right now, the swirling and gathering of right wing mobs is a bit terrifying. the right are in favour of the established order, whereas the left seek some kind of radical transformation of that order This is why I think the best set up is for society to be run by conservatives, and for there to exist a vigorous progressive opposition, always challenging and critiquing power. Exactly the way Michael Tracey is doing—he's an old school Lefty, brought up in the tradition of being deeply suspicious of the rich and powerful. The fact he trains his impressive skill set on Leftist figures as often, if not more, than Rightists, tells you all you need to know about the established order right now. I don't think it works very well when the "radical transformationists" take over the establishment. It leads to the conservative lower classes getting all riled up and turning into mobs. Everything today seems geared toward increasing chaos and disorder. We need a nice middle-class sit down and cup of tea. All along, the only way out of this culture war mess, was for the Left to have dropped their excessive ideological zeal in the realm of PC/Wokeness. In the 90s there was a tiny hint things might go that way. Since then...Jesus wept. |
