I'm sure the comments would have mostly been a shit show of sputtering antis, but at least then they'd have to deal with the cognitive dissonance of hearing the audience laugh. Anyway, I think he was able to pull off this bit partly because he largely made it about himself as a kid. That's an important lesson if you don't want to antagonize people right off the bat with this subject.
