for Jesus's "toleration toward a non-exploitive, caring paederastic relationship" might be His own relationship with St. John the Evangelist, often depicted in Renaissance art as effectively a boy (vide Da Vinci's Last Supper). See, for example, Botticelli's Lamentation Over the Dead Christ. One of the most moving paintings I have ever seen. Christ is depicted not as the usual bearded hippy but as a handsome, clean-shaven (or beardless) youth -- the grief and pathos of St. John (again, portrayed effectively a boy) is overwhelming. One can argue that both Da Vinci and Botticelli were extrapolating from a few somewhat ambiguous Biblical passages that Jesus and John were in a pederastic relationship, even if "Platonic," to push their own private agendas (both were pederasts). But maybe not. SR ![]() |
