as far as I know, only some southern States allow paddling now in the U.S. and it must be with the written permission of the parents and is relatively mild and monitored. But personally, I find the very idea of hurting a child absolutely abhorrent. Children need to be loved and nurtured and accepted and have a right to feel safe....making them feel scared and then hurt horrifies me. I feel like this for two reasons I think....partly because I adore all boys and cannot bear to see them frightened or in pain but also because I am involved in an agency of the United Nations. The Rights of the Child Declaration is a wonderful thing amidst a rather grey world. Most countries abide by this and my thanks go to the Scandinavian countries who certainly lead the way in the early days. I am a relatively peaceful person, although I did some boxing when I was quite young, but if I saw someone hurting a child, I would have no hesitation in ripping his head off. |
