My thought

I actually like others' answers better, but my immediate thought was of high profile child-kidnappings of the 1980s. They started the whole stranger-danger thing, and in my mind began the dramatic ratcheting up of pedo-hysteria.

Now I'm not saying that BLs had it great before the 80s, but from what I understand it was better than it is today. What if kids could still wander the neighborhood unsupervised until dusk, and men who befriended kids were just considered nice? You could still get in serious trouble if you were found out, but people's minds didn't immediately go there. And if you weren't totally creepy you could have all the YFs you wanted.

Ah okay I'm probably seeing history through rose-colored classes. But I was a young boy in the 80s and so I lived through the gradual intensification of fear of strangers, online predators, etc. etc. and I can't help but wonder if there were pivotal moments that could have prevented that course of history.

(hugs)
