Is that there's no such thing as a "virtuous" pedophile.

Hopefully for their sake, the contact crimes were from before he joined the group and just finally caught up with him. Doing something he found out was nothing like his fantasies and that he deeply regretted would be understandable for wanting to promote their message, that I think outsiders might accept more easily.

If it happened later though, this will be devastating for the validity of their group.

The porn could be explainable maybe as an addiction since even the strongest in recovery can relapse. But if the contact crimes are true and fairly recent... yikes. I hope they're not.
