In reply to Could 'pedophile violence' become a problem? posted by JohnHolt on 2025-July-14 06:08:11, Monday

1. Pedophiles are an invisible minority and therefore difficult targets for marginalization. It's not like pedophiles come with their own skin color. How do you marginalize someone if you don't even know whom to marginalize?

2. Unlike gays (who also tend to be an invisible minority), pedophiles don't congregate at bars like the Stonewall Inn to hook up with boys.

3. Even if you're an RSO, while you might have some barriers to employment and you might find it best to not draw attention from the neighbors, you can still go about town without anyone knowing you're a pedophile. These difficulties are not dissimilar to the difficulties shared by all ex-cons, but expecting a pedophile to lash out because of it is kind of like expecting the same from a non-violent drug offender.

I think you're simply playing fast and loose with what constitutes marginalization. Do you really think that the overt examples you have mentioned are at all comparable to having a general disdain for hypothetical pedophiles floating around in the ether somewhere? All this sounds incredibly out of touch with what real marginalization looks like especially if you're talking about the sort of marginalization that results in violence.
