Norman Douglas quote

Posted by Edmund on 2025-June-28 04:39:53, Saturday

Can anyone tell me the original source for this anecdote about Norman Douglas from Ian Littlewood's Sultry Climates, p. 232:

"To the young Joe Ackerley, lunching with him at a café [in Florence] in 1922, he [Norman Douglas] pointed out a youthful waiter: ‘Hasn’t got a hair on his body, Joe. It slips into him like a knife in butter. When are you coming out here to join us?’

It's not in Ackerley's memoir or published letters or any biography of Douglas that I know of.
