Yes, the Pirate Bay does that and it's annoying and easy to be put off, but all you need to do is close the VPN warning advert and reclick the link again, and the second time it always seems to work, though one may need to do this again at each step towards downloading the torrent.

As for TheNextThing, I've been using it and its previous incarnations for twelve years, as have several of my friends, and I've never heard of anyone feeling in danger there. It is THE pirate site for everything boy-related: books, films, music, whatever.
