I have very little experience with Mormons although one of our most active members back in the early 80s was a Mormon and pretty deeply screwed up. Unfortunately, as far as I know, he's been locked-up ever since 1989 or so (for sucking dick), the last twenty-odd years or so in civil confinement at Coalinga. Apparently, he went completely around the bend and became a Bible-thumping fundamentalist evangelical in prison, where so many become fundamentalists, and is very seriously crazy and an enthusiastic sex offender treatment patient. Completely brainwashed. So, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that there is a large Mormon contingent in VIRPED. The cultier the religion, the more they place demands on your every waking minute and your every thought. That's why religions place so much emphasis on wasting people's time with "make-busy" activities that keep them solidly booked. You can see the appeal to lonely people who often are cheered by suddenly being around so many people so much of the time. The cult does have its attractions. |
