In this case yes you may be losing a young friend, but you are also gaining a man friend. In time he will most likely get married, introducing you to another adult friend and that person will most likely have a family. Maybe that new family will have some kids for you to befriend.

Besides your nephew's family there is a whole world of neighbors you can get to know if you want to. The best way to get a friend is to be a friend. Help out. Volunteer. Participate. Join other adults in whatever activities that you enjoy and make friends with the ones you hit it off with. Meet their spouses in time and their kids.

Don't be like some of the wolves we have here on BC who try to split the little lambs off from the flock. No one likes a creepy adult who comes between a boy and his family, school or church. Support the institutions that mold the children. Don't contribute to a child's alienation by bad talking the places he goes to learn.

Your next young friend isn't going to come get you out of bed. You got lucky with that one, but now you are older and wise enough to realize that you've got to get out there and socialize in order to make friends. Every young friend was made recently, otherwise they would be old friends.
