I find it interesting what he says about them not being able to deal with stress. I think a lot of this has to do with parents sheltering their kids from all stressful situations. I ran around outdoors as a kid and in doing so I put myself in stressful situations of which I needed to figure out how to deal with, usually by fucking up and dealing with it. Maybe I sneaked into my neighbors back yard when I shouldn't and his dog tried to attack me. Maybe I cut my hand deeply in the middle of the woods and had to think fast to stop the bleeding and walk over a mile home. Maybe I was too mouthy with one of the older kids in the neighborhood and I had to learn how to talk him down before he beat my brains in. The point is, we encountered stressful situations and in most cases figured it out on our own. Sure, our parents were there when things got real bad, but for the most part we developed a confidence that we could adapt and deal with difficult situations. |
