Interesting questions! One of the strongest evolutionary drives is a parent or adult friend's drive to protect the children of the family/community from harm. When grown ups view children as a commodity to be consumed they have to be put in check by the members of society who center children's dignity and human rights in all of their relationships with said children. Wouldn't you also agree that evolution makes mistakes? The evolutionary drive to love and protect children is a good trait, but in some sad instances people are born without the ability to decipher right from wrong and they have to be watched to prevent them from doing gross and indecent things to kids, toddlers or even newborn infants. Disgusting gross and obscene behaviors do exist, wouldn't you agree? Evolution by natural selection is all well and good, but if people are going to evolve above the stage of wild savages, they need the civilizing effects of society. Religions based on the Bible and centering ourselves on the teachings of Jesus have been responsible for a lot of humanity's evolution over the last couple of thousand years. Without the church humanity would just be another unevolved animal roaming the savanna. |
