Pharmakon, the way I now see this issue, having changed my position significantly, but not at all entirely, is: let's see the scientific evidence. The burden of proof should be on the claims for transgender surgery and hormone-slamming (i.e., radically changing the hormone balance our bodies would otherwise naturally provide).

The burden is on them because the body has its own agenda having evolved to be the way it is (though there are mistakes made in this process) and some people have decided that the body and, I would say, by extension, evolution are wrong. Let them make a scientific case, not a highly subjective and often very irrational one, for why medical professionals should help them to achieve a vision for how they see themselves - at that stage in their lives.

They claim there is evidence and they line up some people with medical or bio-degrees to support them, and write papers dutifully accepted by academic journals in the grip of radical genderism but that evidence is simply slammed by far too many other medical professionals to stand as a bulwark in support of what those other professionals see as a barbaric, pseudo-scientific enterprise which will, ultimately, be the cause of great embarrassment for their apologists and enablers one day. Something on the order of lobotomies or eugenics, something I was accused of promoting last week, also without evidence.

I think respect for the rigor of scientific evidence is slipping through our fingers but we'd better get this one right and have the evidence to back us up.
