On every level. It immediately reminded me of another youngster playing French piano music at the end of the movie 'Tokyo Sonata', a superb Japanese weepy that stars a gorgeous young pianist struggling against the odds in a highly dysfuntctional family. I guess you have to see the whole film (highly recommended) to get the full impact of the boy's final performance, but the understated ending is so powerful - and so Japanese! I don't know as much about music as some who post here and, as it's a movie, the boy must surely be 'playing along' to a soundtrack, however convincing it looks, but I seem to remember (I read about it at the time) that the recording he plays along to was actually made by the boy himself, so it's not really cheating! https://youtu.be/vPyE1I-aJao |
