America's backlash against the Newgon Effect.

The producer referenced Newgon, not NAMBLA, when citing their inspiration for the pro-'pedophile' courtroom drama. Only their interpretation of Newgon as bioessentialist was just as distorted (and identically so) as that of it's most unhinged detractors.

But, I suspect the episode was a backlash against the Newgon effect. You see, on the day Newgon was set up, US arrests and convictions for sex crimes excluding rape and other teleio nonsense had hit a "plateau". Then, as if by magic, they commenced a secular downward trend that continues until this very day, never to return to previous values.

So by the same standard that CSA is consistently harmful to the psychological wellbeing of young people (crude correlation = causation), Newgon was responsible for a pronounced period of latency, "drift" if you will in America's punitive approach toward sexual offenses.
