Confusion can very easily arise between book and film. The movie is a film adaptation of the book "Voor een verloren soldaat"(For a lost soldier) by Rudi van Dantzig. The book was published in 1986. The film in 1992.
Rudi_van_Dantzig was a well-known writer and choreographer. He has worked with many young dancers. He was gay and had a slightly younger boyfriend himself. So he knew very well what he was writing about. The book became a bestseller that was read in all high schools.
Wim van Willegen (1949), a visual artist who taught in secondary education for many years prepares in this video the students for an exam about this book. It is in the dutch language, but the translation works well (on my computer)
There came many book reviews from high school students, aged between 13 and 17 years. These reviews gave me the feeling that they were written in a time when a lot of confusion had already grown about homophilia, paedophilia and the relationship between the two. A good description of the film can be found in this plot summerie.
I searched if I could find an interview with the writer Rudi van Dantzig about the movie but I have not been able to find that.
