Your juxtaposition of parent and state seems odd considering that you envision parents having a kind of veto power which would require backing by the state itself. Every example of parental authority you mention makes me wonder "Or else what?" Without state backing, parental authority would diminish as the child develops the means to assert himself. This is what any sensible form of youth liberation would look like. Children start out dependent upon their caregivers and then gradually come to exercise and expand their autonomy. And if you don't want to pay for his circumcision, then no one can twist your arm about it. |
