Very interesting indeed. I agree with it all except for one slight variation.

I think that in not trying to forbid my 13-year-old son from acting against my advice by taking a lover I believed would be bad for him, I would also be motivated by a feeling that at 13 he ought to be allowed to make his own decisions about all matters that need not have long-term consequences (such as circumcision has).

So I suppose I must be slightly more sympathetic to Pharmakon's notion of Youth Rights, though not as an absolute at any age. Surely there should be more nuances based on age than simply the difference between an adolescent of 13 and a man of 20? At any rate, I would feel that I should forbid my son to take a man as his lover whom I still believed, after listening to him, was likely to harm him, if he were 11 instead of 13. Would you give in to his view however young he was?
