If a 6-year-old is taught how to make himself a peanut butter jelly sandwich, it does not follow that he was taught to want a peanut butter jelly sandwich. We must distinguish between learned behaviors and the outcomes they are intended to achieve. So even if a boy's mannerisms and phrasing are learned behaviors, it does not follow that he was taught to adore Gordon Ramsey. More likely he is using learned behavior to express his intended message. |
