I retired from active leadership of Virtuous Pedophiles a year ago or so, but I'm still around. Nick Devin and I chose Bly Rede as director as we retired, confident that he would carry forward our vision. I have been very pleased! Writing my blog, I followed my thoughts wherever they led me, exploring some positions without worrying about whether they were controversial or exploring them from every angle. For instance, I wondered whether Mr. Rogers was a pedophile but didn't know it. At this remove, it seems pretty far-fetched. Some, like this ""The compromise I propose is that for girls of (say) age 13 and above, there should be no prosecution unless the girl herself wants it -- without heavy pressure from parents or law enforcement. This system leaves in place the most important protection -- if she was raped, there is no need to prove lack of consent."" were meant as a starting point for discussion. A brainstorm. Open for pushback. By no means a Virtuous Pedophiles position. My mindset in writing it was that the vast majority of girls in such a situation would be happy to support prosecution, and the idea was meant to protect a small minority. If I accept the idea that many girls would not support a prosecution in order to protect a man even though they clearly feel they were mistreated, then my view changes. Posting it was quite probably not so great for public relations if I had had that in mind, because when I as a pedophile write that, it sounds like it's selfishly motivated. If such an idea is to be floated, better floated by someone other than me. But I'm not inclined to rewrite history. Ethan |
