My yf has a buzzcut (well, there's a little on top). Even in warm weather, he often wears long pants and when he does wear shorts, they're the long, baggy kind I loathe. So yeah, I might not have noticed him had he just walked by on the street whereas had he had let his hair grow out into a nice page boy cut and was wearing form-fitting mid-thigh shorts, I almost certainly would have. But I didn't see him first on the street; I got to know him through the usual process -- via members of his family who became friends long before I met him. When I did meet him, I was smitten -- here was a boy who needed me and seemed genuinely to like me and want me around. The length of his hair and the length of his trousers suddenly didn't matter any more. I can't imagine now ever ceasing to love him, even when the puberty monster sets in and starts doing its dirty work (he's turning 10 this month, so I'm hoping the worst of it is still a few years off.)
