https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMim0uU1yzA at 2:22 we see an adult entering the room where a teddy bear is lying. at 2:23 we see a boy in a grieving position, as if he has experienced something unpleasant. The Economist wouldn't be caught dead conceding the boy might have experienced something good. Or that it might have been the boy entering the adult's room, making the boy the active aggressor rather than passive victim. The Economist makes these statements without saying a word in a video that is supposed to discuss the development of the brain. This is a lesson in oblique propaganda, never state the message directly to the audience. What if we adapted The Economist's script? 1. a boy drops a teddy bear on the floor as he walks out of a room. 2. he goes into an adult's room. 3. the boy is heard laughing offscreen. |
