Boys aren't that verbal

You're with a boy, and you say "wait, I gotta go pee" and head toward the bathroom There are boys who will follow you to the bathroom. If there is a trough urinal, you can see them looking.

I've been trying to remember a work of Americana literature about the boys' swimming hole where they swim naked, and the author describes the log that they sat on, comparing genitalia. If girls needed to pass through, they would holler a warning. If they waited a while and the boys didn't respond, they would holler "ready or not we're passing through" and the boys would all scramble to cover themselves. I thought "Little Rascal" but it's not there. Does this strike a bell?
