It's cowardly to refuse to admit your mental illness to yourself. Note that I don't think pedophilia is a mental illness, and I think most people here don't think it is either. If anything, something being a mental illness is actually a reason you must admit it to yourself, not to be in denial. By the way, I think you're right that liking cute anime girls and boys doesn't automatically mean you're a pedophile. In psychiatry, the definition of a pedophile is a person 16 or above with a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children. It's possible to be have some attraction to prepubescents without it being primary or exclusive. This is similar to how having some homosexual attraction doesn't necessarily mean you're gay, as you could also be bi. Note that I personally, think "pedophile" should instead be defined as someone attracted to significantly younger prepubescents, even if the pedophile is under 16. It does not sit well with me that 12-year-olds who are into babies aren't considered pedophiles due to a technicality. I guess that "significantly younger" would need a precise definition though, and I'm not sure what that should be. Especially when you consider that it's not really age a person is attracted to, but rather development. Also, what do you mean by "cute"? Sexually attractive or triggering nurturing instincts? By the way, I really hate "cute" as a metaphor for sexual attractiveness. It's like calling platonic female friends "girlfriends". "Cute" should refer to nurturing instincts only, never reproductive ones. |
