At 11, I walked at least that far into town at our country house..... and likely a lot further then that in the city...... esp. if I wanted to walk to McDonalds... as there was no direct way to get there from where I lived because there was a big factory in the way and no sidewalks to get around it. Getting there involved taking the long way around, then walking along the RR tracks back up to the main road.
