In my early 20's I studied my way out of that particular sect, and soon discovered agnosticism, which fit me perfectly at the time, although I'm now content to be described as "atheist" or "secular humanist."

Here's your Bible-study assignment for tonight: Go through each of the 4 Gospels and make side-by-side notes comparing the passion narratives. Compare and contrast the narratives.

That's what Bart Ehrman assigns at the very beginning of a New Testament studies course he teaches in a Bible-belt public university. You can find his lectures on your own for further insight. Rabbi Tovia Singer also has excellent lectures on various Bible passages, and has better knowledge of the New Testament than most Christian ministers.

Your observation that a vast majority of pedophiles are Christians or from Christian families, probably has to do with living in a society where the vast majority of people are Christians or from Christian families. There are also questions about whether Muslims, Buddhists, or Hindus are as inclined to involve the police in a matter affecting the extended family or close social structure.
