Yes, this is a wonderful film, an absolute classic of Danish cinema. It was featured in Mark Cousins' 2013 documentary film A Story of Children and Film. (Any boysexual man who still hasn't seen this documentary, for God's sake do yourself a favour and watch it! - DVD available. It's mainly about boys. I mean, there are a few of the other sort as well; but it's mainly boys.)

The film Palle alene i verden was based on the book of the same title, written by the Danish psychologist Jens Sigsgaard. He was inspired by his own research with youngsters. In interviews with small children he discovered that what they most wanted was to 'have everything', and what they were most afraid of was being completely alone. He was fascinated by the potential contradiction between these two: only in what they feared most - a world without other people - could they have what they most wanted - everything belonging to them.

The book and film are also referenced in a more modern film: Lieber Thomas (2021), in which the extraordinarily beautiful Claudio Magno plays the young Thomas Brasch for the first 8 minutes (and even takes all his clothes off :) I'd highly recommend seeing at least Magno's section of this film (though it contains some scenes that are not for the faint hearted).
