I don't know what you mean by "mainstream" since both chomo and homo are only used by people who mean it as an insult. You might find some gay people using the term "homo" tongue-in-cheek sometimes, but that's only if it's used by gays themselves like black people using the n-word (and only because gays have already been accepted by society). It doesn't add to our legitimacy if the general public only uses "chomo" as an insult.
